Disciplining Inappropriate BehaviorYou will probably work with all types of children as a coach. How you should discipline the inappropriate behavior has been a question coaches face often. Address the child using an "I" message. "I" get upset when you do not play attention to the drill. Rather than using "You". Don’t say "You" won’t be a good player if you don’t pay attention to the drill. Disruptive BehaviorMost kids will have that moment when they are acting inappropriately . When this happens, a coach should correct the behavior. If it continues, a "Timeout" is necessary. This means removing them to a specified area, away from the team for a specified time. Once the time out is over, have them join the team, but make no further mention of the time out.
